Excursions & Activities
The following activities are available at the Matlabas Game Lodge.
Gamedrives: View Africa's animal- and birdlife from one of our open game viewing vehicles. Animals one can expect to see include giraffe, kudu, eland, nyala, zebra, red hartebeest, blue wildebeest, impala, warthog, duiker and steenbok. Night drives are also the perfect opportunity to see some of the nocturnal animals like leopard, aardvark, bushbabies and brown hyenas.
Guided bush walks: Explore the African bush on foot and experience some of the smaller creatures and birds one tend to miss on a gamedrive. Our guides are very knowledgable about the trees, birds, animals, insects and reptiles one can expext to come across while walking.
Birdwatching: The Matlabas Bushveldt is the ideal place for bird enthusiasts with over 200 recorded species in the area. Watch and photograph the birdlife from a blind, on foot or from an open vehicle.
Shooting clays: Hone your shooting skills on the shooting range with some clay pigeon shooting. Shotguns, ammunition and clays are provided at a nominal charge.
Wingshooting: Hunt for game birds of the bushveldt like Swainson's Spurfowl, Natal Francolin, Crested Francolin, Helmeted Guineafowl, Yellow-billed Duck, Red-billed Teal, Comb Duck, White-faced Duck, Spur-winged Goose and Egyptian Goose.

Sun City Resort: Sun City is internationally renowned as South Africa's premier holiday resort offering a multitude of attractions and activities to keep everyone occupied. With a combination of golf, game and gambling, as well as world class hotels, Sun City is the perfect place to spend a few days while on safari. Sun City lies adjacent to Pilansberg National Park and is about a 2 - 3 hour drive from Matlabas Game Lodge.
Fishing safaris: A variety of fishing trips can be organised. Fish in our local rivers, dams and streams or go on a quest for tigerfish or bass. Extended trips for saltwater fishing is also available.
Scuba diving: South Africa has some magnificent diving spots, and although diving conditions vary greatly, the sea life is spectacular. Most dive sites have reefs that cater to both novice and experienced divers. It is not uncommon to see bottlenose dolphins, humpback whales, whalesharks, loggerhead turtles, manta rays, ragged-tooth sharks, bull sharks and tiger sharks at many of the dive sites, in addtion to the multitude of reef fishes, corals, nudibranchs and other sea creatures.
